I've seen Kathie Browne on other things and I've always enjoyed her performance. I think the writing was a bit off for this one and it's not the fault of the actors or actresses.
1. It's pointed out that Kathie's character hated her husband and she feels pain about wishing him dead even though he was very cruel to her. But it seemed out of character for Adam to be going after when she's just recently lost her husband. I would think they'd both be the gossip of Virginia City for "scandalous" behavior. I can see Adam being a gentleman and being there for the lady and her daughter. I would just think there'd be a respectable amount of time to pass before anything else is done.
2. It seemed odd for Kathie's character to be keeping her dad's death from her daughter. I get wanting to shield your kids from pain but I don't see how the kid wasn't running into somebody else and an off hand remark be made "I'm sorry about your father." The little girl looked old enough to be of school age so that could be another possibility of somebody making a remark.
3. Thought it was particularly off the wall for Kathie's character to put it on ADAM for him to tell the little girl about her father's death. Adam even balked about it to start with but he ended up taking the little girl near her daddy's grave until she said she didn't want to go there. So somehow the little girl already knew her daddy was there.
Just don't know. It's like I said on an episode for Mannix, you do what's in the script. Not slandering Kathie Browne because I stated earlier in the review I liked her in other things I've seen her in. I just think she's got the misfortune of playing a weak character and I can't really see Adam falling for her character. It's not her fault the writing's not there. I realize that Kathie will be in a few more episodes so I hope the writing is better for those. We'll see.
