- While attending a circus performance, Jason impresses P. T. Barnum after licking the wrestling champion, but refuses his offer as the new champion. Later, Jason learns Bernum has a new performance: a reenactment of Bitter Creek.
- In the words of Jason McCord
I was at a Circus. Phineas T. Barnum called his circus the "Greatest Show on Earth!" He had pretty much you would expect at a circus, including a tiger! There was a man called Sampson, whom some claimed was unbeatable. Someone bet me fifty bucks I couldn't lick him. I took that challenge. Guess what? I whipped him! Then they tried to cheat me out of fifty dollars. I had a talk with Barnum and ordered him to give me my money. He did unwillingly, and tried to offer me Sampson's job. I laughed and told him no way!
I left and went back to my surveying, but then I found a poster announcing that Barnum had a new performance in the show - a reenactment of Bitter Creek. I went to the circus tent up the road where I found Princess Salome dancing in her Harlem outfit for J. A. Bailey. She promised me to tell me where Barnum was if I stayed for her dance. I did.
When I found Barnum, I was appaled to see the act of Bitter Creek. Had those "indians" been fighting, they would have killed each other! I threatened Barnum I'd sue him if he went through with this. He laughed. My threat didn't do any good at all! So, I decided on a different approach. I told got him to agree that if I got Princess Salome and Bailey to team up with him, he'd drop the Bitter Creek act. It worked! He tried to talk Bailey into a contract of $700 for the Princess Act, but I reminded him of his offer of $1000. He had no choice but to take it.
You know...I just think "Bailey and Barnum" would make a good act some day!
