Possibly the best and most heart-wrenching half hour in television.

During WWII, Cousin Jacob (Joel Grey) was trapped in Europe and his family was killed in the Holocaust. As for Jacob, he somehow survived Treblinka and now a decade later, he's immigrating to America. Not surprisingly, Sophie is excited to see him but she also has a serious problem dealing with Jacob and his pain. Her solution to this is to ignore the past and whenever Jacob begins to talk about them,. She keeps changing the subject. But Jacob needs to talk about the past and let out his pain...even if his new family in America is uncomfortable listening to the horrors of Nazi brutality.

This is a heart-wrenching episode and although much has been said about the Holocaust, this show is unique in how it focuses on the walking wounded...those who survived but only barely. This is NOT a good episode to let kids watch alone and I also would recommend you have some tissues handy...you will need them. All in all, a very well made show...the best in the series. I also appreciate how you do see Jacob in later episodes...to let you know he's okay (as best as can be expected).
