- Mainwaring is crestfallen as the platoon are ordered to take over guarding a POW camp - an easy task but there is something shady about the business.
- The platoon is to guard a prisoner of war camp housing Italian soldiers and Mainwaring is suspicious because Walker seems rather too friendly with them. However Walker explains that he uses them as cheap labour to mend radios for his customers and they go backwards and forwards in and out of the camp via a tunnel which they have dug beneath the stove. When an inspection is called for and only half the prisoners are available Jones, who is doing the head count, makes them go round twice but the plan is rumbled when the missing half turns up.—don @ minifie-1
- Despite Mainwaring's grumbling his platoon must remain in defence of his town, it's detailed to relieve the Polish Free Forces as guards for the Italian POWs camp. Things always went well the easy way, but Mainwaring grimly insists going by the book to the friendly Italian general. Then he discovers twenty prisoner are missing, because Walker has 'contracted' them as illegal labourers. HQ is already alerted and sent captain Bailey, so now the twenty must be sneaked back in and covered for meanwhile.—KGF Vissers
