Spy gadget #9
CoastalCruiser27 March 2015
This episode brings us a similar pairing of bugging device and receiver as seen in "Such Men Are Dangerous" (the special "Order" of folks who assassinated world leaders at will).

The bug John Drake plants in a woman's suitcase is a completely different shape however; it's larger (more battery capacity?) and sort of rectangularish. The radio, although it is similar in dimension to the transceiver used in the aforementioned episode, has a different face and is just a receiver. It does not seem to broadcast, whereas the other radio did (it needed to so that Drake could call in the Calvary!).

So the bug in this episode is a unique enough pairing to warrant calling this the 9th spy gadget seen in the Danger Man / Secret Agent saga.

"The Prisoner" prologue?
revbish-37 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I think the ending to this episode may be one instance of many such disapointments for John Drake that may have led to his resignation in the series "The Prisoner". Enough of these would be ample reason for resigning for a person of high integrity as I think Drake was. The ending even left me feeling hollow and sorry for the couple who trusted Drake and returned to London. Not a happy ending. (I loved seeing the old '50s model Saab 92! I used to have 2 model 96 2-stroke Saabs , a 1963 and a 1967. Some of the most beautiful autos ever built, even though I well understand the overheating problem Nicos had!)

A decent plot and an interesting twist at the end but also a few plot holes as well

Charles Glover has defected to China and M9 wants him back. However, their only chance is to follow Glover's wife who he left back home in the UK. So, Drake begins watching her and soon learns that she's headed to Greece, so he naturally follows. Once there, he makes a casual acquaintance with Paula Glover but finds that a local man, Nicos, seems to ALWAYS be in the way. Not surprisingly, Nicos is an enemy agent and is intent on taking Paula behind enemy lines in Albania. As for Paula, it really isn't certain if she is aware that her husband has defected or if she wants to defect as well.

While I liked the plot and REALLY liked the ending, this is not a great episode of "Secret Agent" because it had quite a few plot problems. For example, when Nicos tried to kill Drake the first time, he picked a method that made it very likely Drake would survive. Also, following this boating 'mishap', Drake's oars (which he'd lost) magically appeared. Also, when Nicos was making his getaway, the car miraculously overheated--preventing a clear escape. These and other instances of sloppy writing made what should have been an exceptional episode just adequate.

I'm Interfering With the Rights of a Citizen

This talky episode features Sylvia Sims as the wife of a defector trying to catch up with her husband. The difference is, he's defecting to red China. Drake is to bring the husband and wife home.

Not much action. After the beginning it starts to lose steam. Sims is very attractive and I've always liked her, but it's difficult to feel sympathy for those willing to sell out the cause of freedom to any sort of aurocracy or oligarchy. Just as well it's dull with vapid comparisons between east and west.

Needs less talk. But if you want to say "Drake" is The Prisoner" this is a good episode to point to for his doubts snd resignation.
