Stacey begins to show a bit of personality that is NOT whiny and Jane makes a few bucks.
planktonrules12 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
The show begins with Mystik Spiral accidentally knocking down the gazebo in the Lane's backyard. Wind (Trent and Jane's annoying brother) visits, he's heartbroken that the gazebo is broken, so they decide to fix it while their parents are away on one of their irresponsible jaunts. But how? Jane tries selling some artwork at a local art show but meets a guy who loves her paintings that are copies of famous works. He pays her to make more and although the paintings are not creative and bore Jane, she likes the money! At the same art fair, the Fashion Club idiots have a caricature artist make a drawing. However, they have no notion of what a caricature is and when he naturally exaggerates their features, the freak out and are angry--threatening to sue! They simply can't drop the matter--and by the end of the show you learn that Stacey actually liked the drawing and treasures it.

Overall a pretty ordinary episode. Not quite the usual quality of humor but some nice story lines keep this from being dull.

Caricatures of the Fashion Club
safenoe26 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This is the 7th episode of the 5th season of Daria, the halfway point of the 5th and final season of Daria. Daria's boyfriend Tom doesn't appear in this episode, and this episode is focused on Jane making $$ to paint copies of original famous works. Jane struggles with the perception she's a hack, which is a shame.

"The criminals have more rights than the victims" is the claim of Staci, who is disgusted at a caricature of the Fashion Club. It offends their sensibilities, but here Sandy secretly likes it and she hangs it with pride on her bedroom wall, unbeknownst to the Fashion Club.

Daria is need of a reboot, as I'd love to hear Daria's thoughts on Wikileaks, Edward Snowden, Black Mirror, Netflix and Snapchat.

Jane sells out
Tweekums22 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
When the gazebo in the Lane family's back garden collapses Jane decides to sell some of her art work at the local art show. Here her reproduction of a Van Gogh catches the eye of a local art dealer who commissions her to paint more reproductions. She quickly earns enough money for the gazebo but starts to feel that she is selling out by painting somebody else's work rather than trying to do more of her original work. Trent meanwhile is in charge of hiring workmen to repair the gazebo; he hires a group but finds it hard to make them actually get on with the work; he can't bear to be seen as 'The Man'. In a secondary story the fashion club also go to the art fair and get painted by a caricaturist; they are not impressed with the results and are determined to take legal action!

This was a pretty funny episode; it was nice to see Jane and Trent taking centre stage and they both provided some good laughs; these were added to when their parents finally get back and declare that they want to get rid of the gazebo after all! The fashion club's side story was also pretty funny; the highlight being when Tiffany asked Helen about getting somebody to break the caricaturist's fingers! Over all this was a fun episode with plenty of laughs; not a classic but certainly worth watching.
