A good, fast moving episode, one of the best of the 1840 storyline.
The stranger, Charles Dawson, brings the head back to Gerard. Dawson says he is a servant to Judah and Gerard puts on the mask. He is now possessed by Judah. Before Gerard was a shady rogue but now is the totally evil character we had come to know as the ghost in 1970. Gerard says he will have revenge on the Collins family with a new witchcraft trial for Quentin.
Trask tells Quentin he believes Barnabas had a hand in Roxanne's death.
Later, Gerard views Roxanne's body at the funeral parlor. A woman named Lorna Belle enters. Trask knows her as "someone not in polite circles". Gerard speaks to her and invites her to meet him later. Quentin also enters and seems to know Lorna.
Dawson takes Lorna to Rose Cottage where she is confronted by Gerard in the mask, he raises a knife.
Trasks shows Gerard Lorna's body in the morgue, she has the "mark of the devil" on her forehead.
Later Trask goes to Quentin to tell of Lorna's murder, he sees a ring on Quentin's finger with the same mark that was on her head.
