James Hume's exploits were dramatized in The Bandits of Panamint (1953) and Black Bart The PO8 (1954).
James Hume (1827-1904) started working as a detective for Wells Fargo in 1871, but the company gave him a one year leave of absence in 1872 to work as deputy warden of Nevada State Prison. Among his most famous conquests was the capture of Black Bart in 1883.
