Unusually Thought-Provoking for 1950's TV

I'll leave plot recap to reviewer Kapel'. More than most cop shows of the time, Decoy concentrated on human interest for audience appeal. That's probably because Casey couldn't be seen duking it out with criminal thugs in the manner of a standard male series. Despite some over-acting (Dekker), this particular episode is distinguished by a surprising climax unusual for its day. The build-up has touches of both criminality and tragedy with wife Atwater's poignant cripple and husband Dekker's single-minded devotion. Still, the ending comes as a memorable surprise that heightens what may be a tragedy or is it justice served. On the other hand, there're no characteristic views of NY streets or locales, since it's this study of values that prevails. All in all, the entry's a thought-provoking episode, so don't miss it.

The Naked Choke
kapelusznik1819 January 2014
***SPOILERS*** NYPD policewoman Casey Jones, Beverely Garland, goes undercover as a team with this deranged lunatic former circus strongman Otto Flagler, Albert Dekker, to end his reign of terror on the NY city bar scene. It was with the help of Ann, Zohra Lampert, that Big Bad Otto got bar patrons to end up having their wallets snatched with him aiding Ann by putting them to sleep, with his naked choke hold, when they tried to get their wallets and money back. It was in fact Otto's wife Lily, Edith Atwater, a former trapeze artist whom he was committing theses, with her consent, crimes for. It was when Ann got wind of what both Otto & Lily were doing that she herself ended up dead, from a forced drug overdose, to keep her from going to the police.

Casey posing as a mugger or snatcher at a local bar gets Otto's attention who soon recruits her as his replacement for the late Ann to work the bar scene, in snatching patrons wallets, with him. It soon becomes apparent to Casey that Otto is doing this for Lily who's crippled, from a traipses accident, as well as addicted on hard and dangerous drugs. In fact what Otto is doing for Lily is getting her more and more addicted on drugs that's turning her brains to mush and making her go completely insane as well as irrational.

***SPOILERS*** With Otto finding out that Casey is a police woman as well as on to his and Lily's crimes he decided to end it all before the police comes barging into his and Lily's apartment as arrest them. With Lily perking up a hot and sizzling pot of coffee, laced with a fatal dose of heroin, that's good to the last drop the two together gulp it down knowing that it's their only way out of them ending up paying for their crimes. Crimes that were not committed for money or profit but only for love!
