- Marshal Simon Fry: How'd it happen, Ben?
- Ben - Prison Warden: Daley just got too close to him. You see, Marshal, we have a rule about a guard keeping his distance - but there's no rule about a guard being foolish enough to forget it!
- Ben - Prison Warden: You're sitting here questioning prisoners while Marlowe's out there runnin'!
- Marshal Simon Fry: We'll get him back. You see, Ben, I know the first thing Marlowe's gonna do is join up with his wife.
- Ben - Prison Warden: You any idea which way he's headed?
- Marshal Simon Fry: Yep. I sent telegrams to all the deputies in the territory just in case.
- Ben - Prison Warden: In case what?
- Marshal Simon Fry: Marlowe swore he was going to get the man who set him up, remember?
- Ben - Prison Warden: Yeah, in court right after he was sentenced.
- Marshal Simon Fry: That's why I figure Marlowe's going to make my job easy. I don't have to go lookin' for him. All I gotta do is sit still and wait for him to come lookin' for me.
- Herk Lamson: Why don't someone invent specs that can't break.
- Clay McCord: These new ones can't - unless you drop 'em.
- [Peg's gunman prepares to shoot Heck in the back]
- Clay McCord: Call him off, Mrs. Marlowe.
- Peg Marlowe: He is *not* my dog.
- Clay McCord: You killed him, Ms. Marlowe. I pulled the trigger, but you killed him. I hope you're satisfied. You wanted someone to pay for Con Marlowe's death - well, somebody did. I just shot a man in the back! It don't matter that I saved a man's life because if I was playin' by the rules, that wouldn't count!
