THE DETECTIVES – The Long Drive - 1959

This one is episode 10 of the 97 episode run of, THE DETECTIVES. This series starred Robert Taylor and ran between 1959 and 1962. The first two seasons ran at a half hour and the last season had a runtime of an hour. The series followed the detective squad in a big city precinct. Cast regulars included, Mark Goddard, Russell Thorson, Tige Andrews, Lee Farr and Adam West. Robert Taylor headlines as Police Captain, Matt Holbrook.

Virginia Vincent, a not all that smart party girl, reports that her date for the night drove off with her purse. The Police take the report and don't pay too much attention to the matter. That is till the car licence plates match a stolen car that was used in a bank robbery. The robbery resulted in the death of a bank guard.

Detectives Tige Andrews and Lee Farr pay Miss Vincent a call at the hairdressers where she works. They quiz the woman for anything she can recall about the man. Vincent tells the Detectives that they meet in a cocktail lounge and then went to an apartment to party. She says there were a dozen or so people there celebrating a going away party.

Vincent though cannot recall where exactly the party was. Detective Andrews and Farr spend the afternoon driving Vincent around town to see if she recognizes anything. No joy on that front, so they take her to the squad room to talk with their boss, Robert Taylor. Taylor has her recount the entire evening for him. Vincent recalls a food delivery from a fancy eatery. The Police back check from this info and soon have an address.

The boys grab some backup and are soon kicking in some doors. The main suspect, Mark Roberts, is a tad reluctant to be brought in and goes for his .38. A bad idea as he is quickly taken down. Miss Vincent is thanked for her help, and Detective Farr asks the perky blonde out for a date.

This is a quick paced, half hour that hits the entertainment button on the head.

The Long Drive
Prismark102 November 2023
Grace Bannion is a good time party girl. She just does not want to go all the way with Carl Cowen, the guy who picked her up and whose going away she was at.

In her haste to get away from him, she left her purse behind his car. So she goes to the police.

When the detectives find out that the car number plate was used in a robbery where the guard was shot dead. They need to find out where the guys had the going away party.

Only Grace cannot recall where the party was at. She then refuses to give any further information after she is insulted by Detective Conway.

It is up to Captain Matt Holbrook to sweet talk and get her to remember.

An efficient and slightly comedic episode. Just a little too talky and silly.
