Wow...are the Petries 'white bread'!

When the show begins, Rob and Laura are thrilled to see that Ritchie is sitting at the breakfast table...reading the newspaper! He apparently can read pretty well and his parents are shocked...and proud of their kindergartener. However, this pride doesn't last long, as soon Ritchie starts showing other 'advanced' behaviors....such as learning all sorts of cuss words! What should good parents do in such a situation? At first, Laura recommends they ignore it...but soon they can't, as Ritchie has written some offensive word on the blackboard at school.

This episode looks incredibly dated when seen today. The words Ritchie used are never mentioned but the reactions the words elicit are way over the top. It's also weird how Rob and Laura react...as if they've never heard the words before or as if they were spoken by a dog! Their reaction just doesn't make a ton of sense...even in 1962. Not a terrible episode but one that just didn't age well and illustrates how old fashioned TV was at the time.
