Just tell him you hate it!

When the story begins, Mel brings his cousin (Gavin MacLeod) into the writer's room. It seems the cousin sells jewelry at wholesale prices and Rob falls in love with one of the ugliest pieces of jewelry you could imagine. It's big, clunky and incredibly unattractive. However, instead of just telling Rob she dislikes it, she tries to spare his feelings and he takes that to mean she loves it. What is Laura to do, as Rob insists she show it off to their friends and family?!

This episode is a great illustration of the notion that you should be honest with your spouse and just tell them how you really feel. It's also clever how Laura manages to extricate herself from this predicament. Well worth seeing.

This has bothered me since I first saw this episode

That necklace should have been worn as a belt. Laura in a sweeping black skirt and a nice black top, with that around her tiny waist, would have been stunning. I can't imagine why none of the characters -- or the producers -- thought of that -- But! Of course still a great show. Six hundred characters, huh -- OK. Gavin McLeod and Mary Tyler Moore together again for the first time! And Robert Petrie's mother so beautifully played by that lady -- what was her name -- can't stop now to look it up -- ninety-nine characters to go -- OK sixty-seven -- forty-nine -- thirty-five -- twenty! Now twelve!
