The early plot of this Kilroy episode is very similar to the plot of a 1960 episode of "The Andy Griffith Show" called "Stranger in Town", in which a young man named Ed Sawyer comes to Mayberry and mystifies the town residents by knowing their names, even though they have never seen him before. Even the explanation is the same, as both Ed and Kilroy were in the army and became friends with a former resident of the small town who told them all about the town folk, and inspired them to visit the town to see it for themselves.
The actor who plays Kilroy, Warren Berlinger, was a familiar face who popped up in countless TV episodes over the next five decades, including multiple episodes of "Happy Days" and "Love American Style". He was also a regular on the 1960's sitcom "The Joey Bishop Show", playing Joey's younger brother, Larry. In real life, he was also the nephew of Milton Berle, and appeared with him on screen several times..
