This episode of the long-running Disney series offers us a lesson in how to do the impossible; at any rate, it looks impossible to a confirmed city-dweller like me. It's a lesson in how to climb a mountain, offered by Gaston Rébuffat. He was a top mountain guide who was chosen to help Disney's crew get their cast, crew and equipment up the mountain for the Disney feature THIRD MAN ON THE MOUNTAIN.

Director Hamilton Luske offers us a course in basics and assaults on the Eiger and Mont Blanc... and most of the shots are from above the climbers. Such shots are more dramatic, but the process must have been harrowing: get the camera and crew up, then have Rébuffat and his client do the same thing.

It's an amazing thing to watch more than half a century later and realize that these are live shots: no CGI, no glass work, just human beings at the top of the world, getting shots better than anything we can get in a computer.
