Officer Moore is shown going for a walk with Genie right after the suspect he shot died, and he still has his sidearm. When a police officer discharges their weapon in the line of duty, especially when a fatality is involved, they are required to immediately surrender their weapon to their immediate superior. The officer is then taken to be questioned by Internal Affairs, and not allowed to talk to anyone else expect for an attorney if they wish. During questioning the officer's blood is drawn to ensure that they were not intoxicated at the time of the shooting. This is done so that an accurate account of events can be made while it is still fresh in the officer's memory, and the officer's weapon is examined by crime scene investigators and tested to ensure it was the actual weapon used; this is all done to ensure that the officer had proper justification to discharge their weapon and use deadly force so that they can be either cleared to go back on duty, or be suspended if there is doubt as to whether there was sufficient justification or if their toxicology screen comes back positive.
