The actor who performed Silik, John Fleck, appears here without his usual Suliban make-up. In fact, this is his only appearance throughout all his Star Trek appearances where he has not worn any facial prosthetics.
The opening alternate timeline "newsreel" featured many images that were synthesized digitally; footage of Adolf Hitler in Paris for example, was digitally altered to remove the Eiffel Tower and put the Statue of Liberty behind him. Additionally, it also contained footage from the well-known Nazi propaganda film Triumph of the Will (1935). One clipping, however, was not digitally altered: a seldom-seen actual 1930s meeting of the American Nazi Party. It depicts a Nazi rally before a stage bearing Nazi banners on either side of a full-body portrait of George Washington. This imagery was taken from the "Mass Demonstration for True Americanism" event, held by the German-American Bund, which occurred at Madison Square Garden, New York City, on February 20, 1939.
In his morale speech, Vosk, wearing a Nazi uniform, speaks the line, "History will belong to us." A similar sentiment is expressed by a Nazi youth in the musical "Cabaret," with the line, "Tomorrow belongs to me."
This takes place in 1944 and 2154.
John Fleck (Silik) also played Taibak in The Mind's Eye (1991), a Cardassian Overseer in The Homecoming (1993), Ornithar in The Search, Part I (1994), Koval in Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges (1999) and Abaddon in Alice (1999).
