Warning: Spoilers
A diamond that Charles I supposedly gave to his mistress Nell Gwynn is on exhibit in a museum. A woman, Janet Tetford, is at the exhibit and hysterically declares that the diamond is a fake. She then goes to a jewelry shop and makes the claim that the jeweler either sold her a fake or that the diamond on exhibit is a fake. Fabian investigates and has the museum's diamond authenticated as the real Nell Gwynne's Tear. It seems Janet and her sister Doris are undertaking an elaborate scheme to get back at an art expert, Nicholas Bardwell, who they believe swindled their father. As Fabian delves into the case, he discovers a forgery operation. Bruce Seton does a good job as Detective Superintendent Fabian and the story, as are all of the episodes, is asserted to be based on cases of the actual and now retired, Superintendent Fabian. At the conclusion of the episode the real Fabian ("a man called England's greatest detective") wraps up the story. A plus in this episode is seeing Alexander Gauge as Nicholas Bardwell - Gauge for me will always be most memorable as Friar Tuck of the Robin Hood television series.
