The One With The Fishing Boat...
taylorkingston19 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this episode. I thought it was really funny. It isn't one of my favorite episodes from the series, or even this season, but it is really fun to watch.

In this episode, Peter is still out of a job, but decides to buy a fishing boat, and a become a fisherman. But the fish just aren't biting, and the loan company is threatening to foreclose his house, if he can't repay the money he borrowed for his boat. He hears about a $50,000 reward for catching the infamous man-eating fish, Daggermouth. So he takes Joe, Quagmire, and Cleveland out to try and catch it. Meanwhile, Lois takes Meg to Spring Break, and shows her how to party like a pro.

Overall, I give this episode a 7 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Great.

A let down...

Warning: Spoilers
This is one of "those" episodes of family guy that is on the lower end of this comedic series. There's really nothing wrong with the story of the episode, it's just the fact it's simply not funny. I was left disappointed, considering most of the previous episodes were hilarious. I hate comparing episodes or films, but standing alone this episode still isn't that funny. I've watched it a few times as well not back to back but over a long span of time and simply can't really enjoy this episode.

Peter ends up buying a boat to get a new job, but can't afford to pay back a loan for 50,000 dollars. He decides to try to kill Daggermouth, the jaws rip off of a killer fish. The whole episode builds up to the climax but lets you down. i know it's not an action show but FG has done hilarious fighting scenes between characters, which is what I was expecting. Overall 6/10

Classic!

I wouldn't consider this episode "a let down," as one other reviewer relayed.

Seemingly another trend for shows of the time, this was Family Guy's homage to the film Jaws. And not for nothing, because it's very fun and enjoyable watching Peter and the guys out at sea, and seeing the early beginnings of Peter's fishing career.

A Poor Fish
keithotisedwards8 March 2024
The best episodes of this or any other show are written by one guy who sells the script to the producers. An example is "I Dream of Jesus" from Season 7, which was written by Brian Scully.

This Poor Fish (which should've been the title) seems to have been written by committee: Seth MacFarlane and the cast. You can imagine them sitting around a table with a case of beer, throwing out ideas, none of which work. The "Jaws" take-off is especially weak and obvious, and the Spring Break sub-plot is a good idea, but it goes nowhere. It all smells like they were desperate to come up with an episode quick, and the result is what you would see in the week's trash.

Every show has good and bad episodes, but this entire episode lacks in laughs or anything original, and as everyone knows, the only good thing made by a committee is the giraffe.
