An interesting storyline.

Manfred takes a personal interest in a boy named Vito, who's been picked up for stealing his Captain's suitcase, Vito faces an uncertain future, as he has no passport and no idea of where he came from.

What an imaginative and clever episode, I don't think I've stumbled across a film of show with a plot quite like it.

Good to see Manfred acting from the point of view of his day job, interesting to think how immigration has changed as time has gobe by.

Jack Hawkins is excellent as always, and the young Joseph Cuby does a good job, child actors weren't always great on this series, but he did well, I couldn't make out if his voice was dubbed or not.

Martin Benson did a fine job as the nasty Captain. Frank Thornton popped up so many times, such a versatile actor.

A pretty good penultimate episode.

7/10.

Ben Manfred MP comes to the aid of a young boy called Vito, arrested in his constituency.

He seems Vito escaped from a ship where he worked and stole a suitcase with a sextant and a few other belongings. He also has marks on his body which indicates that he had been whipped. However Vito has no idea which country he is from.

Captain Renald, the ship's captain claims this thief (Renald's own words) and take him back to the ship. Ben Manfred is having none of this and persuades the police to release Vito to him.

Ben goes to Malta to follow up some clues about Vito's nationality. However Captain Renald is not done with Vito. It seems the young boy took something vital that Renald wants returned.

It was worth noting that the police were not that interested on the marks on Vito's body. While Ben Manfred had a hunch that Vito could just be British.
