a bit difficult to believe but enjoyable.

"The Collar" is one of the more overtly religious shows of the 1950s. This is NOT any sort of complaint...just an observation. It is quite watchable even though, at times, it seems a bit too incredible.

The show starts just before the Cavalry is going to attack and wipe out a group of Blackfoot Indians during the time of the old west. The officer in charge (Barton MacLane) isn't particularly sympathetic to the natives and plans on killing them all. However, when a priest (Niven) approaches the camp, the planned massacre is put on hold...for a bit. It seems that the priest was sent out to serve in the west and he was taken prisoner by the tribe...and he's come to beg for a reprieve...even though the tribespeople treated him horribly.

An interesting episode...and, as usual, well acted. My only reservation is that the script seems rather tough to believe. Still, it's worth seeing and like all the "Four Star Playhouse" episodes, it's available for free download from archive.org.
