The title is based on a quote by Britian's wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill concerning Field Marshal Montgomery's victory at the Battle of El Alamein. "Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."
Berniece Janssen, playing the woman laughing and walking arm in arm with a man at Kimble's boarding house, in real life was David Janssen mother.
This is the first of three appearances Frank Maxwell makes in the series, each time playing the role of a law enforcement officer. The other two appearances are in Crack in a Crystal Ball (1965) and Running Scared (1966).
