In this episode, Jesse says he is 24 years old. In episode 11, Danny turns 30. It is assumed that Joey is closer to 30 since he and Danny were friends in college.
This episode gives the audience a hint of what the original premise of the series was supposed to be about. In initial pitches for the show, the storyline was supposed to revolve around three stand-up comic bachelors (this requirement was dropped in later pitches and just made to be three bachelors, all with different jobs) who shared the same house, and the show dealt with their trials and tribulations. ABC, however, wanted a more family-driven comedy, and thus, it was rewritten to the series that aired. This episode with Jesse, Danny, and Joey hints at what could have been.
An earlier contributor remarked that Jesse first says his catchphrase "Have mercy!" in this episode. Jesse first says it in the pilot, albeit not as dramatically as he would say it in later episodes.
