St. Louis Cardinal's star pitcher Bob Gibson makes references to the 1964 and 1967 World Series. In 1964, the Cardinals defeated the New York Yankees in seven games, and in 1967 the Cardinals defeated the Boston Red Sox in seven games. Later in 1968, the year this episode was produced, Gibson won the National League MVP Award and would again play in a World Series. He pitched 17 strikeouts in the opening game, a record that still stands. But in the end the Detroit Tigers defeated the Cardinals in seven games. Gibson played pro baseball for 17 seasons spanning 1959 through 1975. Upon his retirement, the Cardinals retired his jersey number 45. In 1981 Gibson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
