Captain Gregg (Edward Mulhare) has used his magical ghostly powers to scare off potential boyfriends of Mrs. Muir (Hope Lange). A identical lookalike for the Captain, an Irishman named Sean Callahan (Edward Mulhare in a dual role), shows up at Gull Cottage. Sean claims the Captain is his great-great-great grandfather. He wins over Martha (Reta Shaw), the kids (Harlen Carraher and Kellie Flanagan), and especially Mrs. Muir, highly angering the Captain. The Captain, only seen to Mrs. Muir, accompanies the couple on their date. Sean believes Gull Cottage is haunted and wishes to meet his ancestor.
I try to have an open mind and take what a sitcom's episode gives, but dual roles are generally too gimmicky for me unless the script's laughs overcome it. Here it doesn't, in my opinion.
