Witness (#6.21)

Warning: Spoilers
Rose now has a new boyfriend Karl. And then Miles shows up because he misses her. But turns out that Karl is in reality Cheeseman and just dates Rose to get to Miles. After Rose tells him about it he shows up in the house with his gun. And Blanche finds out the horrible truth that there is a Yankee in her family tree.

A good way to go on with Rose and Miles story. Was nice to see Barney Martin in it! Liked the scenes with him talking to Rose. And he acted very well too.

The story about Blanche had lots of humor as well. Seeing her deal with being a Yank and Jewish was fun!

Blanche is the best

Warning: Spoilers
This show is before people realized the confederate flag represents nothing but hatred. 80s 90s pretty sure 2022 history books have changed quite a bit now. I'm a big hater of anything regarding the confederate flag but this isn't a bad episode. At least on that end now the rose miles witness protection crap, why? That has to be the most ridiculous story line I've seen especially on a great show like this. Not to mention he says his name is Nickolas when it comes out but as the show continues after the cheeseman is taken away its like they were like "omg that was stupid let's see if we can forget about it just have them call him miles still". I mean that plot makes his daughter visiting and disrespecting rose because mama.just died a year ago all not make sense and those are good episodes. Seems like they didn't know what to do with Arnie/Miles/Nick than they really peeved me in Golden Palace he's been cheating on rose why? I think because bea was tired of the show they married her off to end it when I believe whole-heartedly if Bea Arthur wasn't being such a pain rose and miles would of married and the show would of ended beautifully not dorothy the smartest of them all marrying blanches uncle after two days come on! All and all Blanches story is the only reason I'm giving this a 7.

Wrapping up the show's biggest boo boo.

Warning: Spoilers
With Miles away in the witness protection program, Rose is dating other men, and much to her shock, her newest boyfriend, Barney Martin, turns out to be the notorious cheese man whose coming back from the dead had sent Miles into hiding, living as an Amish man. The show's issues with continuity were never more obvious than the first part of this earlier in the season, especially the way Miles was written out. It would be further ruined on "Golden Palace", especially since his real identity never came up again. Then there's Blanche's determination to get into a club of women of the South, poking fun at the bigotry, and better written than the main story. Sophia also claims that her glasses were stolen which brings neighbor cop Kristy McNichol into the story, overlapping her into Rose's story with Miles and the cheese man. McNichol unfortunately gets on my nerves along with TV sister Dinah Manoff, so I never tuned into "Empty Nest". Dorothy gets a hysterical "Fiddler on the Roof" reference, a tribute to the fact that she was in the original Broadway cast as Yente, teasing Blanche who is upset to find out that her Southern heritage is marred by two things. Soap diva Marla Adams ("Secret Storm", "The Young and the Restless") has a great bit as one of the snooty southern women. Another case of the secondary plots being better than the original, although getting the chance to see stage actor Barney Martin (of the original "Chicago") is a highlight.

Painful
rich-fouts3 August 2022
Blanch is horrified that she may have Jewish blood and when she goes to the southern ceremony there's a confederate flag on the stage. Another woman is thrown out of this southern club because her ancestors sold bullets to a union soldier. The south not only committed sedition but they lost the war. They were the traitors. Sure it's a comedy but a confederate flag? That represents the time when people were enslaved? Tasteless.
