Crawford Lake, where Oliver goes fishing and meets Ira Hatch, is the same lake that was used as "Lake Myers" in The Andy Griffith Show (1960), notably during the show's opening credits, and for many other TV programs and movies. It is a wildlife pond located in Franklin Canyon Park in Los Angeles.
The same actor who plays Willie the Witcher, i.e. Percy Helton, in Water, Water Everywhere (1966) also plays Ira Hatch here. This is, in fact, his second of three appearances in the series. His third and final appearance occurs in The Milk Maker (1969) as still another character: Luke Needlinger.
