Quotes

  • Luke Brazo : [talking to the cornered, slightly-injured wolf that has no way to escape Luke and Matt]  A couple of years ago you'd a lost us. You just too old, plum run out. I'm sorry, old friend.

    [shoots and kills the wolf]

  • Luke Brazo : Hello, Matt.

    Matt Dillon : Hello, Luke.

Luke Brazo : Well, ye still tree-tall. Ye ain't bent any.

Matt Dillon : Yeah, you're still as thorny as I remember ya, too.

Luke Brazo : [after a small chuckle]  That's 'cause my ma raised us on sour milk.

  • Luke Brazo : [talking to Matt about the wolf they are hunting]  He's covered a right-smart o' ground since he scattered dem sheep back 'ere. He's headin' for 'em rocks up 'ere, he knows we're follerin' 'im. Ain't gonna be no marks on 'em rocks. I'll figure we've gone about as far as we can go.

Matt Dillon : Luke, you ole moss horn, you can't fool me. I've seen you track a snake across pine needles.

    Luke Brazo : Yeah.

[pauses for a couple of seconds]

Luke Brazo : Well, he'll use them rocks to throw us off and then double back. Or he'll head for high country.

Matt Dillon : Which do you think he'll do?

Luke Brazo : [pauses for a couple of seconds and looks up toward the rocks]  Head for high country.

Matt Dillon : We better get started.

  • Luke Brazo : [shortly after killing the wolf]  I thank ya, Matt. You'll be ridin' on to Hayes, I reckon.

Matt Dillon : What're you gonna do?

Luke Brazo : Well, first I got to bury this ole warrior deep enough so that the vultures, human or otherwise, can't get to 'im. Then I,

    [short pause]

Luke Brazo : I'm gonna try to find me a place where there ain't no such thing as time.

Matt Dillon : So long, Luke.

    Luke Brazo : Matt,

    [pause]

Luke Brazo : ridin' together, I put a value on it.

Matt Dillon : So have I.
