Mrs. Annie Simmons and daughter Jennie arrive at the High Chaparral looking for Buck. They had a close relationship but became separated. Buck tried to find her but gave up. Her husband has left them. She knows he usually goes to a small town in a bad area near the ranch. She asks Buck to find her husband to see if he will come back. It is an emotional task for Buck who still loves her but he accepts it. She gives him her wedding ring to show why he is looking for her husband Jack. Buck finds the town and inquires about Jack. No one responds but thieves in the bar jump him that night for the ring. Jack intervenes to help Buck but refuses to return with Buck. He hates Buck as his wife always talked fondly of him making him feel second rate. He takes Buck's gun back to town where Buck can retrieve it. Buck does but also confronts Jack again resulting in a fight. Buck is forced to leave alone but is ambushed by the thieves who now want revenge along with the ring. It appears to be death for Buck the next day until Jack intervenes - again. He rides with the wounded Buck to the ranch and a reunion with his family.
