- Amy wants to get into college, and Wayne wants to help impress the recruiter who's coming to dinner at the Szalinski house. Worried about being embarrassed by her family, Amy convinces Diane to talk to Wayne about acting normal during dinner. Diane talks to Wayne while he's working on the Psycho-Cybernetics Generator, a machine that makes one's thoughts happen in real life. Diane blurts out that she wishes they were a normal family just as she's zapped by the generator. The next day Diane becomes frozen in time and, lost inside her thought of a normal family, learns that normal can be boring. Worried that Diane might not know she's trapped in a dream, Wayne wires them both to the generator, which projects his thoughts into Diane's head. If Wayne can join Diane in her thought, he can help her get back to her very non-normal life.—GusF
- Invention of the week: Psycho Cybernetic Module
Amy is looking to get into a good college and has a recruiter coming to visit. Amy is concerned about Waynes weirdness messing up the evening. She and Diane confess that, at times, theyd both like a normal life. Diane talks to Wayne about it and they get in an argument. While arguing Diane screams shed like a normal life at the same time Waynes Psycho Cybernetic Generator fires, hitting her and sets the stage for an alternate reality.
Wayne makes the evening a disaster. Diane slides into a catatonic state several times. The college recruiter runs from the house. Amy manages to get a recruiter from an even better college to come. Before the recruiter gets there, Diane goes deep into a world where everyone and everything is the same. Wayne goes into her head to help bring her out. Wayne finds her at the normalizing center, where they attempt to make her normal. Perhaps a nod to A Wrinkle in Time.
While Amy talks with the recruiter, using fake parents, things go nuts.
