Ted's favorite book is "Love in the time of Cholera" by Garcia Marquez. The book starts with an old man reminiscing how he came to be with the love of his life, similarly to how Ted tells the story to his children.
Lily said Oh, mucho sexy, Te quiero, Marshall in Spanish which means Oh, very sexy, I love you Marshall in English.
Ellen tells Ted, after doing a few sums, that there are only 8 women in New York who could be a potential match for him. One of the criteria that Ellen uses is to discount women who are more than 5 years older, or younger, than Ted. When Ellen fails to find a match for Ted she tries to reassure him, by telling him that there are women turning 18, everyday. As Ted is 27, an 18 year old is significantly wide of the +/- 5 years that Ellen initially calculated for, meaning the amount of potential women would be far larger than just 8.
