In this two part opener of season 2 a copycat of a most grisly murder takes place in Sparta. In the one in the 60s a young girl was found stabbed to death, hanging on a tree in the woods with her heart cut from her body. Some said it was a ritual
voodoo killing, but the husband of the deceased was tried, convicted, and executed.
This fresh murder which was discovered by Alan Autry and David Hart has all the same signs. There is a West Indian woman playd by Iman who runsa bar and has working familiarity with the rituals.;
This may get solved faster but one of the Sparta Councilmen starts floating a rumor that Virgil Tibbs ought to be replacing Bill Gillespie as chief. Not good for the harmony in the Sparta, PD.
Geoffrey Thorne makes his debut in the series as new recruit Wilson Sweet. Howard Rollins is asked to train him.
As the episode ends attempts are made on Rollins and Carroll O'Connor.
