  Katma Tui : Hmm. I'm glad you learned something.

  Green Lantern : So what is Despero up to?

  Katma Tui : He's preparing to start a massive world conquest. Rancid 7 was just a test run for him. But I don't know when the real campaign begins. And thanks to you, I almost lost my cover.

  Green Lantern : I'm sorry, Kat. I didn't know.

  Katma Tui : Next time, call ahead.

• Green Lantern : [saving a civilian in trouble]  You can demonstrate your gratitude by giving me some information.

  Kalanorian : [running away]  Despero, forgive me!

  Green Lantern : Wait!

  [as the crowd behind him murmurs, a female protectively grabs her child] 

  Green Lantern : Oh, good job, Stewart. This kind of attention I don't need.

• Kilowog : John, they got her. They got Kat.

  Green Lantern : [he passes out]  Who got her? Kilowog!

  [gently putting his head on the ground] 

  Green Lantern : Take care of him.

  The Flash : [watching him fly away]  What just happened?

• Hawkgirl : I said rotate the securing bolts counterclockwise, not clockwise.

  Green Lantern : [outside the Watchtower]  That's what I did.

  Hawkgirl : Oh, no, you didn't.

  Green Lantern : Wait. Didn't you tell me that the clocks on Thanagar move in the opposite direction to those on Earth?

  Hawkgirl : Uh... I never said that.

  Green Lantern : Oh, yes, you did.

• Radocko : What do you want?

  Green Lantern : Nothing that concerns you.

  Radocko : It does concern me if you're breaking into Katma's quarters.

  Green Lantern : Do you know Katma Tui?

  Radocko : I'm Radocko, her friend, but I don't know you.

  [drawing his sword] 

  Radocko : I think you should leave.

  Green Lantern : I'm here on business from Despero. Now, if you'd like to avoid trouble...

  Radocko : [leaving]  Uh, not a problem. I... I apologize, sir.

  Green Lantern : Stealth and guile, Katma. You were always right about that.

• Green Lantern : Can't we all just get along?

  [knocks Despero's henchmen into the ceiling] 

• Green Lantern : Why am I alive?

  Radocko : You were plucked from a fiery death courtesy of our handy matter transporter.

  Green Lantern : You have a matter transporter?

  Radocko : [indicating the device]  It's a bit rickety, but it's saved a few like yourself.

  Katma Tui : And it was the best I could come up with on short notice.

  Green Lantern : Kat!

  Katma Tui : [punching him in the face]  What are you doing here?

  Green Lantern : Nice to see you, too. I thought you were in trouble.

  Katma Tui : And since when have you known me to ever need help?

  Green Lantern : I was obviously mistaken.

• Despero : Another Green Lantern. This is getting monotonous. But I'm sure it's not your fault. You were, after all, just following your master's orders.

  Green Lantern : Despero, I presume.

  [his followers chant Despero is all in unison] 

  Green Lantern : With a backup group, no less.

  Despero : The Guardians would be wise to step aside. A new order to the universe is coming, one that will be written in fire and with the blood of all who oppose me. You would be wise to join me.

  Green Lantern : I don't know what you're selling, but I'm not buying.

  Despero : What you want is irrelevant. The only will that matters is mine, the one true voice of the Flame of Pitar. Such was bestowed upon me in the time of before.

  [narrating over flashbacks] 

  Despero : I was but a simple peasant cast out because of my deformity. Alone and forlorn, I wandered in the wasteland, guided by an unknown hand of fate. It was when I was set upon by a gang of thieves bent on taking what little I had that the ultimate truth was revealed to me. Before the thieves could flee, the ground split asunder. A great flame shot forth and destroyed my assailants. But I was spared. My third eye opened, and the flame spoke to me in a voice only I could hear. It told me of a time when Kalanor would become a paradise. Pitar charged me with the honor of leading my world to greatness and spreading its light across the galaxy.

  Green Lantern : Hmm. Your story sounds a little derivative.

  Despero : You doubt my word? Behold, the Flame of Pitar.

  Green Lantern : [a pair of doors are opened and the flame is unveiled]  You built a bonfire. Am I supposed to be impressed?

  Despero : You are not the first skeptic. You will not be the last.

  [John fights off two guards] 

  Despero : Open your eyes that you may see!

  [he fires an energy beam from his third eye, which John counters with his ring] 

  Despero : Feel the power of my rage! Feel the power of my hate!

  [John's ring is overpowered] 

  Despero : You see the futility of your quest?

  [knocking him down a flight of stairs] 

  Despero : Priestess, throw this one into the Flame.

  [the priestess is revealed to be Katma]
