Fence With a Libido
bkoganbing10 November 2012
This episode of Kojak finds Telly Savalas investigating the homicide of a young woman who was from Baltimore whom we see gunned down on a park bench. What also happens is that the shooter tries to remove a ring from her hand with a diamond like the star of India. The young couple who interrupt that become the witnesses who call the police.

You have to admit that's one hell of a clue for Kojak and the squad. Turns out it's part of a big jewelry heist from Baltimore where the deceased came from. And that puts the squad on finding the crew that did this because they might be in the New York area.

The key to this case is Alex Rocco who is a well known mob figure from Las Vegas. Rocco who is best known for playing Moe Green in The Godfather has an insatiable libido. He's also a well known fence and for this Savalas calls in female patrol officer Lynnette Mettey who wears a dress slashed up to her navel and sashays in front of Rocco. Just couldn't pass it by.

Sometimes something looks too good to be true and it usually is.

Decent...but not one of the better ones.

I've recently begun watching "Kojak" episodes and so far I'm really enjoying the shows...mostly because of the writing. "Knockover" isn't bad but compared to the great episodes I've seen so far, it's a step or two below them

The story begins with a guy killing a young lady in the park and trying to steal her ring...unsuccessfully. But the ring is an important clue when it turns out it came from safe deposit burglary...and Lt. Kojak is determined to make them pay. In addition, he is working on busting Tony Curcheo (Alex Rocco), a sleazy and violent mobster who has a habit out of being very rough with prostitutes and other women.

The story is good and you do get to see the Lieutenant smack the crap out of one of the criminals...but the story itself only mildly interested me. What was interesting was that for 1973 the show was a tad racy as it strongly implied the Lieutenant was 'getting some' from a pretty female officer.

Darn, My Ring is Stuck and I Can't Get it Off

Is Joannie Garretty a regular on this show, and if not, why not? She has a great rapport with Kojak and provides good comic relief. She could be used in a whole host of scenarios and would add great sexual tension for the very sexy Kojak.

The girl in the beginning who sits on the park bench and reads a paper is clearly not from New York. In the seventies you would be on alert at all times after dark. And of course, she is not, from New York, as we soon find out.

The teenagers who found the body were hilarious. They made themselves look guilty when they were just stoned.

After a trip out to (?) Long Island (?), the bad-parents-who-let-their-kid-play-on-a-ladder were wisely sussed out by Kojak.

Overall, an entertaining episode, although a bit convoluted with the different locations.
