As the first season of Las Vegas enters it's final third, we get "Nevada State", an episode that largely focuses on Sam's still-mysterious backstory. She receives a call from an unknown number early in the episode and talks to someone with a pretty dour voice. She tells him not to call again, and later we discover that the caller is an escaped convict who is on the run, and connected to Sam due to events from her childhood. His likely return to Las Vegas (and apparent desire to get revenge on Sam) sends everyone at the Montecito scrambling, and we get to learn a little more about Sam.
We also learn more about Mary, when her high school cheerleading team turns up at the Montecito, captained by an old enemy, played by Alison Sweeney.
These characters are so good, and I always enjoy an episode that focuses on their pasts.
