Warning: Spoilers
I knew where the story was going as soon as Clint told Sam he could lead him to the outlaw. It didn't take too many brains to figure out what Sam and his deputy figured out - that Clint was leading him in for the kill. I figured Sam would find some way to convince the boy, and somehow I figured he would teach Clint how to shoot.

This has Lucas McCain written all over it. Remember the Rifleman episode when a boy's father died of a heart attack after John Hamilton told him he was repossessing the farm? Then the boy, Tim, swore to kill John Hamilton someday...Okay, so it's not exactly the same because it was Lucas McCain who taught Tim how to shoot, but I think Lucas probably thought the same thing Sam did - they both took a calculated risk.

I wish it were that easy to turn a hardened heart soft again. These days, it seems we see so many hardened hearts. Maybe if we go back to television of the yesteryear where the violence was black and white, we'd have less crowding in jails.

Calculated Risk

Deputy Marshal Sam Buckhart kills a bank robber while the other one manages to escape.

The bank robber's young son, Clint is alone, angry and upset. Sam takes Clint to the boarding house to be taken care off. Little Tess notices that Clint is looking for a gun.

He means to shoot down Sam Buckhart in revenge. While Sam talks to Deputy Billy Lordan about tracking down the other bank robber as well as calming down Clint's anger.

The boy has made contact with bank robber. They have made a plan to trap Sam and shoot him. It involves Clint trying to entice. Sam away.

Sensing this is a ploy, Sam goes for it just in order to get through to the boy.

The ending is very simplistic, very much in keeping with the black and white morality of vintage television. Not an ending I bought.
