For all of us guys in high school who dared to grow a mustache to impress everybody --this is your show of shows.
Of course it's not just anybody who Wally wants to impress. It's beautiful Julie Foster (played by Cheryl Holdridge). She's been seen arm and arm with an older gent, naturally sporting a suave stache, and Wally gets jealous.
Hugh Beaumont directed this very well, particularly Tony Dow, who was now college material and becoming a young man on the go.
I also agree with the last reviewer, and I would never have admitted it 50 years ago, however Wally looks good with a mustache. Just how much of that was real or dark pencil... we will never know!
Another relatable story for us teens who made that very first important decsion in his life; to shave or not to shave??? That is the proverbial Shakespearian question of 'em all. About a decade later, it was all about sideburns, remember?
Cheryl Holdridge, who appeared several times on the series, was originally a member of the Mickey Mouse Club, but did not have a good singing voice, so she was kept in the back of the group! Regardless, she made the rounds of many 60s tv shows, later marrying a race car driver and retiring (briefly) to raise a family. Cheryl was always the one to watch, the ideal gal pal. I think the Beach Boys always had someone like Cheryl in mind when they wrote "Surfer Girl" not too long after this episode. I also tied that song to Sally Fields as Gidget, but that was a few years later.
Memories, and thank you ME TV.
