Go Back To The Bowery!
hogwrassler13 March 2021
The Ranger and Tonto are after the three Compton Brothers, Barney, Chick, and their leader, Lou. They have been terrorizing the territory from their hideout in no man's land. Lou is a supreme egotist and wants everyone in the west to know and fear his name. While looking for information in town, Tonto recognizes a depressed old man as former fighting marshal Frank Dean. The Ranger and Tonto visit Frank in his run down shack and convince him to help them infiltrate the gang and effect their capture. But can Frank regain his nerve after all these years? These Comptons are mighty tough! Ray Teal plays Frank Dean. This was a few years before he became Sheriff Roy Coffee on Bonanza. And the stage driver at the beginning of the episode is none other than Glenn Strange, AKA Butch Cavendish in four earlier LR episodes, including the first three of the series. That's Stanley Clements as braggart Lou Compton. Two years later, he would replace Leo Gorcey in The Bowery Boys movies series. Stan was Duke Covelski, the unofficial leader of The Bowery Boys. But by then, Huntz Hall was influencing the direction of their movies and most of the focus was on his "Sach" character. Even wearing his cowboy hat and six gun in this episode, Stanley Clements still looks like he belongs in The Bowery.
