The Ranger and Tonto find a wrecked stagecoach and evidence that it was attacked by Indians. The lone survivor of the attack, young Jim Douglas, also says it was Indians. But The Ranger believes it may may been white men dressed as Indians. After conferring with Jim's Indian Agent father Henry, and rancher Gorham, the Ranger decides to investigate and find out why white men are trying to start an Indian war. The Ranger sees his old friend, Chief Red Hawk, and in the chief's necklace spots a clue as to the reason someone is causing all this trouble. Gorham doesn't wear a gun, but the Ranger is suspicious and finds that he does carry a hideout knife under his coat. It's a dangerous situation for all and it will be a difficult job to expose the truth and catch these villains.
