Dan Reid encounters cavalry deserter Jack Carey, son of General Carey, who is a good friend of The Lone Ranger. Dan takes Jack to the Ranger and Tonto's camp. The Ranger wants to capture outlaw gang leader and deserter Dirk Blaisdell, a tough customer. Jack agrees to try to join Blaisdell's gang, along with Tonto. Then Tonto can slip out and tell The Ranger the location of the hideout. But two soldiers, Lieutenant Stevens and Sergeant Macy, are searching for Jack as a deserter and they can complicate matters. And Smiley Hawks, one of the outlaws, has a great memory for faces and may recognize Tonto. By now, the Ranger was well known in the west and Sergeant Macy tells Lieutenant Stevens about him, but Stevens thinks The Lone Ranger is just a legend and not a real person. Will he find out different?
