THE LONER – Flight of the Artic Tern - 1965

This is the sixth episode of the Rod Serling produced western series, THE LONER. The series ran 26 episodes during 1965-66. Lloyd Bridges is an ex US Army soldier working his way west after the Civil War.

Bridges has been invited to the wedding of an old friend, Tom Stern. Stern is marrying the owner, Janine Gray, of a large cattle ranch. All goes more or less OK till Gray puts the moves on Bridges. Gray is a free spirit who wants to sample the field. Bridges returns the kisses etc for a moment before pushing her away.

Bridges decides he should leave before things get out of hand. It is however too late. His friend, Stern saw the embrace and calls Bridges out to settle the matter. Bridges refuses to draw so Stern starts in with his fists. Bridges gives Stern a sound beating, then again explains he is leaving. There was no reason to be jealous. Gray realizes she has hurt Stern and that she does love him. The two make up as Bridges rides off.

A rather weak episode of what has been till now, a not bad series. The direction was handled by actor turned director, Don Taylor.
