Peabody was played by Harold Peary, radio's Great Gildersleeve from 1941-50. Peary's co-star on the program was Walter Tetley, who shares a strikingly similar name to Sheriff Walton Tetley.
Alan Sherman (Sheriff Walton Tetley) had a busy career as a writer/singer of novelty tunes in the 1960s His album 'My Son the Folksinger", "My Son the Nut" and "My Son the Celebrity" all hit #1 in the Billboard chart. The single from "Nut", "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (A Letter From Camp) hit #2.
