Colonel Mosby is shown admiring his medals awarded to him by the Confederate Army while serving in the US Civil War. The Confederates didn't award any medals because they didn't have the money to make them. And by the time came they could issue any medals they lost the war anyway. In fact the first such medal was posthumously presented over a hundred years later in 1977.
