Disappointing US Reviews
Luv2Binge29 December 2023
The rating score by people in the USA is a big disappointment. I'm only 61, but I grew up knowing all of these talented actresses by name and stardom. Ethel Merman at her age in 1982 was phenomenal. Those legs alone and a figure that is just stunning. Carol Channing is one of my namesakes, and her shtick along with her dancing and singing were incredibly done. My mother was growing up in Brooklyn, NY, when these women were the highlights of Broadway. I guess I was raised to learn the culture of Broadway 20-30 years before I was born. Brava to these women who still 'got it' into there 70s!!! Magnificent performances by all. APPLAUDING!!!

The beginning of the end of the series. Ridiculous and surreal. A smorgasbord of has been.

So Much Music (Cab's Pajamas)
WalterKafka1 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
'We ought to be doing King Lear.' Sigh. Let's get this out of the way. Who thought this was a good idea? All you had to do, show, was stick to the formula. Okay, in between the musical numbers it's the same show we know and, uh, love. The laugh track really gets cranked up. Carol Channing is back. Double sigh. Della Reese takes over as Isaac's mom. Ann Miller is Doc's ex mother-in-law. Her daughter is his ex-wife's sister. (Got that?) Ethel Merman is back as Gopher's mother. She romances Van Johnson. Will Gopher get a new dad? Cab Calloway is after Della Reese. Okay, Ann Miller was kind of ageless. Her number is kind of a highlight. Gopher sings! Hoo boy! It's a good thing they gave his lady that dress to distract us. One thing you can say: the camera work gets a pretty good upgrade, worthy of what they're trying to emulate. Cab has awesome pajamas. I recognize the song that Ethel sings from Perry Como is Still Alive. You're gonna need a bigger cruise ship if you have any hope of containing Ethel's voice. See you in part two.
