- MacGyver arrives at a wasteland test site owned by Phoenix Foundation. There he finds an envelope waiting for him, containing an audio cassette with instructions to play it. A voice tells that he will be waiting for MacGyver ahead and then proceeds to describe how the area, once busy with living things, died. Even the air is hazardous to breathe. The voice is convinced that this is what will happen to the town of Maple Ridge if constructor Bartlett's City Development Program becomes a reality.—Toni Tapola, Finland
- Phoenix Foundation friend Willis contacts MacGyver to help him use his scientific findings that Bartlett City, a small town-size development project which was officially improved with environmental report, is actually a water management disaster recipe. A wasteland resulting from such problem nearby proves as deadly as morbidly empty. Mac takes the report to CEO Andrew Bartlett, who promises to come along on a field trip. His frustrated son Scotty and sycophantic daughter Laura can't afford to be exposed, so they resort to thugs and even a bomb to dispose of Mac, and if necessary even their father.—KGF Vissers
- A business tycoon is planning to build a city in an area that the Phoenix Foundation claims to be environmentally unsuitable for mass inhabitation. MacGyver attempts to persuade the family business owner to take the environmental tests seriously, and takes him on a drive through a wasteland nearby. Unexpectedly, a car bomb explodes the car they're driving, and it turns out that the man's children are behind it, in an attempt to take over the family business.
