Annoying
hp-197 March 2022
Lady Ashley is a completely different person here, than she was in "Comuter date" in season 2. Here she is a monstrous snob. In season 2, she was kind and not snobbish. What happened to the continuity of the series .. Still the Higgins part of the story, is the best part.

Sharon Stone was a knockout!

A young and gorgeous Sharon Stone steals this episode and has great on screen chemistry with Tom Selleck. The storyline itself is nothing new and the supporting cast is okay. But, if you are a fan of Ms Stone, then you need to catch this episode.

Great episode with Sharon Stone sharpening her skills

Warning: Spoilers
This is a fine 2 parter which is totally predictable but still fun. Back in the 80's any kind of detective show would have this plot and here is the spoiler alert bit- of twins who turn out to be the same person with a split personality. Sometimes there are no twins at all and sometimes one is mourning the death of the other. Now if you haven't been around for a long time or not seen any of the other dozens of this theme than you will be quite fascinated. There are actually 2 massive mysteries in this episode one how does it take Magnum so long to work out what is happening and two why does he seem to have some weird connection to Diane (yet this stops him realising what she really is?) and this spooky connection is never explained. But truly the best thing about the episode is seeing Sharon Stone 'in training' for her Basic Instinct role. Also the other plot line in this two parter is the Higgins 'getting married' another predictable scenario but still a lot of fun and actually Higgins and Magnum really showing great friendship with each other in this episode. So even though this episode predictable I give it a 7 because of all the fun and mysterious elements getting to it.

Wow a young Sharon Stone
MiketheWhistle25 February 2020
I hardly recognized Sharron Stone and doubt I would know it was her if I didn't have imdb. She truly was a beautiful woman and showed some exceptional talent as an actress here.

As for the Mag ep, it's ok, but frankly didn't find it compelling as a two part ep. I'm not exactly sure why. i'm not sure if it's because of Higgins part of the ep which I found to be rather weak.

The shame is that I found Higgins, John Hillerman, to be a great actor especially when having to play more than one sibling/or his father. But for whatever reason this one didn't quite do it for me.

Basic Instinct meets Magnum!
mm-398 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Echoes of the Mind starts out with a destroyed Magnum entering madness/depression/destroyed over a case. Starts with a young Sharon Stone in a sports car crash. The young, attractive client needing help. Will Thomas break detective protocol and cave into attractive charm? The romance then mixes into a mystery. Who or what is wrong? There is a evil attractive sister? Money, passion, and mystery make for an edgy Magnum! Magnum is pushed to the mental edge! Well written and directed. Copied so many times but fresh for the 80's. Of course such a complex story has to be a two parter 8 stars.

I Really Enjoyed This Episode, Even Though...

Warning: Spoilers
I was a big fan of Magnum PI in the 80s. It had suspense, drama and funny stuff happening all the time! Halfway through Part 1, I had figured it out, but kept watching because I loved it when Magnum fell in love (He did that a lot)! He is hired to find out who is trying to kill his beautiful client, Diane Dupres. The plot thickens as his client's past starts to come to light and Magnum is torn. He doesn't know what to believe! When Diane's twin sister, Diedre, shows up, Magnum start putting the pieces together and is shocked to learn the truth! Sharon Stone is very good in the dual role of twins. The story has an explosive ending that's worth the watch!

Sharon Stone

Warning: Spoilers
Just a decade before Sharon Stone became a megastar lusted by males in Basic Instinct with Michael Douglas (who at the time was at his peak as a sex symbol after leading roles in Romancing the Stone and Fatal Attraction), she plays two roles in this two-parter of Magnum P. I.. Sharon Stone plays sisters Diane Dupres and Deirdre Dupres. As Diana, Sharon is kind of unrecognizable as the Basic Instinct femme fatale. But as the cynical and saltry Diana, she pretty much resembles the Basic Instinct femme fatale.

The first parter ends with a very steamy shower scene, very steamy by 80s standards, with Magnum and Diana under a hot shower.

Basic Instinct Magnum
pensman5 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Well this episode features a very young Sharon Stone and was no doubt was quite clever when it aired but somehow from the initial sequence featuring Sharon Stone fighting Sharon Stone you knew there could only be one. However, this role must have provided Stone something to draw upon when she did Basic Instinct. I found the subplot of Higgins getting married to the love of his youth much more interesting. Here is Higgins finally getting Lady Ashley only to discover she isn't what he hoped her to be. In this case a woman who wants Higgins to give up his title and take hers because she needs an escort to better parties and she is the widow of a Duke while Higgins is but a Baronet. Higgins exit from the engagement is the better story.
