- Maynard, of whom no man could ever be jealous, suddenly finds himself a hot commodity among the coeds of S. Peter Pryor Junior College when he agrees to serve as their escort to social events while their boyfriends are away. Dobie, fearing his caviar-stuffed friend is headed for a life of dissipation and decay, sets to rescuing him.—Gary R. Peterson
- Maynard has suddenly become the want of many a girl who would like him on her arm for evenings out. The reason: Maynard is seen as being harmless, and a thus a non-threatening substitute for a boyfriend who is out of town either away at school or in the military. Although he gets many requests to be an escort from many girls, Maynard decides only to accept the offer from who originally proposed this job to him, Bernadine, whose boyfriend Roger is attending an Ivy League school. Bernadine is a girl who Dobie tried to woo but who flatly turned him down because of Roger. Dobie, however, doesn't like what this job has done to Maynard, who not only accepts the best of everything from Bernadine, but who now expects and requests the best of everything, Bernadine who is more than willing to provide such. Dobie and his parents decide to intervene, trying not only to provide alternatives to Bernadine's offers but more importantly to get Maynard back to his old non-demanding self. Dobie portrays this intervention to Maynard as having no ulterior motive, while Bernadine's actions are all self-motivated. But the work of the Gillises may take a hit when Roger comes back from school which directly affects what happens with Dobie.—Huggo
