Babysitting an FBI witness
Tweekums22 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
The trial of Carlos Cantero appears to be falling apart when the defence attorney raises Crockett's recent medical problems; the FBI though has a star witness. The problem is they think Cantero might try to kill him before he can testify. To protect him he is placed in the care of Crockett and Tubbs; nobody would expect the FBI to get the police to look after their witness! It should be a simple task but the witness doesn't seem to realise just what danger he is in and climbs out of a window to go clubbing. Crockett gets him back but not before he is seen and Cantero's men learn where they are keeping him. In order to keep him far from the killers Crockett takes him to hide on his boat… that would be perfectly safe if there wasn't a leak telling Cantero what was going on.

At first I thought this was going to be a weak episode as the witness was annoying and too stupid for words… would anybody really go clubbing when there was a million dollar bounty on their heads? Thankfully there was a valid reason for this which I won't spoil here. There is plenty of action including several shootouts and an exploding helicopter… although it was a pity the one that exploded was clearly a very different model to the one Crockett shot at! As the story reaches its conclusion there were a few nice twists that most viewers probably won't expect; I know I didn't!

Surprisingly good

This is not only one of the better episodes from series five, it's one of the best overall. It was interesting to see Crockett portrayed as one of the "older generation" for a change :) I liked the interaction between him and the young witness, which showed yet another side to his character. We can also see in this one further intimations of Crockett's growing disillusionment with his job, helping to make the series finale more believable.

Crockett & Tubbs provide protection to a young witness that can provide damaging testimony to drug Kingpin
train2land24 June 2006
I may be bias to the show and particularly this episode because I had the wonderful good fortune to be on the set during one of the scenes for "Line of Fire". I was 20 years old and was called as an extra for the scene in which "Izzy" is running away from Philip Michael Thomas and Michael Talbot on Miami Beach. "(Ocean Drive between 8th & 14th ave). It took the entire day to shoot this scene which can't be more than 3 minutes long. I met Kevin Major Howard who was the guest on the show, you may remember him from Full Metal Jacket. I also met Talbot and Thomas who were very friendly. Unfortunately Don Johnson was not in this scene and I did not travel to the hospital for the evening shoot which did have Don in the scene. (I regret not going still) In the scene you can see me in various positions in camera frame. I'm 1st seen on the beach throwing a frisbee to a girl. I'm seen again catching. The action then turns to the 2 cops talking at an open café when they jump the wall you can see me sitting at the table behind them looking surprised at their sudden movements. My brown 1981 Datsun 200sx is parked on the street which can be seen. Then when the shooting starts you can see me ducking off to the side with the girl I'm with. Allot of action for 1 extra in a quick scene. The episode was one of the best in this final season. Crockett and Tubbs have to protect this young, cocky guy who would rather party than be kept under protective custody. Crockett and Tubbs have to chase after him when he slips out of his hotel room to go to a club. The "bad guys" try a few times to knock off this kid before he can testify. The duo try their best to protect him. Exciting episode with a twist at the end. It will be hard for me to see the new Miami Vice movie without these original stars playing the parts they created.

Corny but watchable!
mm-3917 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Line of Fire is corny but watchable episode. I remember watching this episode in my youth liking the heavy metal/punk theme. A young witness (metal/punk guy) has to testify against Crockett's criminal nemesis. Entertaining character the young puck/mental guy, is so full of attitude. The punker wants to go clubbing lol. Lot's of Crockett attitude balances out the over the top young rocker. Great back and forth with Crockett and the witness. Of course, their is a plot twist with the witness being an undercover agent. A decoy for the bad guys. There is the usually corny Miami Vice shoot out ending. And there is the corny dramatic Miami Vice gut punch climax. So corny Line of Fire is actually memorable and good. 6 out of 10 stars. Worth a watching!
