Best ever episode
colinprunty-16 July 2020
Having been a huge fan of this iconic series for almost 40 years and enjoyed the majority of episodes this one ticks the box as the best episode of the whole bunch. Arthur takes on a dreadful female singer who specialises In dated 1950s numbers . He tries to promote the lady via a grotty rock joint that Terry bounces in and gets ripped off in the process. This episode is what the series was all about , dust ups with local businessman , Arthur at his slimiest and Nasty best , and a classic Arthur / Terry spat that was a regular feature of later episodes but the argument in this episode is full of feeling and really hits home the underlying resentment that Terry has for Arthur. Classic minder episode , well written with the right balance of comedy and real grit of the local underworld that made this show famous. They didn't ever reach the heights of this episode ever again in my opinion .

Monday Night Fever

You see Arthur talking about er indoors but you always sensed he would be loyal to her, especially as we learn that Arthur has young children.

In this episode Arthur enters the music business and he takes more than a professional interest in singer Sharon Dobbs, she sings ballads and she is awful. Arthur seems to be smittened by her.

Arthur has a run in with music promoter Chris Lambert who takes money from Arthur to promote Sharon and does nothing. Easy money, maybe Arthur should had known better.

Lambert hangs around with a neanderthal hard man who beats people up for no reason in his clubs and the house band themselves gets little pay for their performances.

Terry wants nothing to do with Arthur's plan for revenge, he does not want to go inside again. Arthur hires another thug Vic Piner who is a right nutter. Piner will more than just break a few bones, he will more likely end up killing Lambert. Terry now needs to make sure Arthur does not himself end up in trouble with the law.

A variation from the formula, you expected Terry having a showdown with Lambert's heavy but it is with Piner instead. Terry also wants to help out the slimy Lambert by making sure he is not permanently injured.

It is strange to see someone con Arthur out of some money, also that Arthur could not recognise a bad singer. Poor Arthur, Sharon found the lead singer of the house band was more her type. No surprise there, he was played by Peter Blake.
