Engines in Sync
hellraiser77 October 2022
This is another of the favorite episodes from the show. It's kind of your typical lost twin mystery but it's still a good one and this is solved with the help of science.

Like the character of the week Lonnie who is sympathetic as well as an underdog character who is really smart and has, I wouldn't say big ambitions in life, but big ideas and ideals from running the go kart garage he helps run well and making it better than before but also to simply fix and build motorcycles and just anything with an engine. The biggest problem is that he lacks the drive as he's plagued by lack of self-confidence and self-esteem which makes him unable to see his vision in life clearly and worst of all himself.

Like in one scene there is this employee that is just a lazy ass, Lonnie tells him to do practically the simplest job ever but the employ refuse and just gives him a rude comment. Personally, if that ever happened, I'd tell the employee off by saying "do your job or lose your job". I know seems harsh but when I run a business it's a business not a daycare center, and sometimes you must lay the law down to continue doing business, that's a scientific fact it's also a fact of life.

Unfortunately, we see Lonnie doesn't lay the law down like he should, he just let that lazy ass just walk all over him but also we see how bad it is when his jerk boss (or co manager) does the same thing, the things he said to Lonnie I thought "drift blowhole"; I know harsh again but he's that bad and I don't have to take it nor should Lonnie. Yeah, Lonnie's internal engine needs a tune up and of course the Misfits are the mechanics he needs.

I like how the mystery unfolds slowly but surely as we see Lonnie get certain visions almost like in the film "The Dead Zone". Were in the same boat as him as we're trying to figure out what the heck this all means and is leading to. Really like the science use with some mind experiment to help in free associating the mind to come up with something, like one moment where Lonnie corrects a finding Billy was too quick to dismiss. That moment just goes to show how common sense can still work but also shows how Billy can easily overthink things and really doesn't know everything. Also seeing Lonnie doing his best to play his lost brother's role which is an obvious nod to the classic tale "Prince and the Pauper" but seeing that is interesting because you can't help but think that could of also of been Lonnie's life had gone different directions.

The racing sequences are decent, liked seeing Johnny on the motorcycle as well as use his static shock abilities as usual, for one thing to do a quick weld on a broken part of his cycle. There is even a decent chase at the end and we see Lonnie get to be part of the action as he rides in his brothers place and he's actually a capable racer, he races to catch the bad guys along with Johnny on his bike, sidenote Johnny with the black bike and outfit sort of looked like "Street Hawk" in a way this is closest to a crossover for both shows.

Will Lonnie find his brother in time and can the Misfits beat the bad guys to the finish line, you'll have to wait and see.
